PM urges realising the four breakthroughs in foreign affairs sector

VIENTIANE,AUG.(KPL) Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong urged external relations officials to pay attention to materializing the four breakthroughs in foreign affairs sector.
The resolution of the 9th Party Congress stipulates the necessity to materializing the four breakthroughs of addressing characteristics of dogmatism, human resource development, the improvement of governance regulations and poverty reduction.
About 360 external relations officials from both provincial and central levels met at the 11th nationwide meeting on foreign affairs in Vientiane Capital yesterday.
Mr. Thongsing urged the participants to enhance relations, cooperation and solidarity with friendly countries, especially the comprehensive cooperation and special solidarity with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the People’s Republic of China and increase the cooperation with the socialist Republic of Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and friendly neighboring countries.
He asked the participants to integrate the protection of national sovereignty into the diplomacy and active promote the government participation in both bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks.
He called the participants to attach greater attention to the preparation for Laos’ accession to the World Trade Organisation, the contribution to the establishing of Asean Community by 2015, the development in the Mekong region, the cooperation under ACMECS framework, and the development of goods transportation on land and through water-borne channels and the preparation for hosting the 9th ASEM Summit in 2012.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said that the implementation of foreign policy is in line with Party policy and the government’s socio-economic development plan.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Mr. Nam Viyaket informed the meeting of the increasing efforts of the government in trade-oriented diplomacy with international community, the integration into the world economy, ASEAN Free Trade Areas, Asean+ dialogue partners agreements, and the government efforts in WTO accession.
Additionally, Minister of Planning and Investment Somdy Douangdy told the meeting that the government should make more effort in attracting foreign investment to ensure the implementation of the current five-year socio-economic development plan.
