Daewoo Engineering wins US$1.23 bln order from Oman

SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- Daewoo Engineering & Construction, South Korea's fourth-largest builder, said Thursday that it has signed a US$1.23 billion deal to build a thermal power plant in Oman. Under the deal with the Oman Power & Water Procurement Company, Daewoo Engineering said it will build a power plant with a capacity up to 2,000 megawatts in Sur, some 200 kilometers southeast of its capital Muscat. Partnered with the Japanese-led Marubeni Consortium, Daewoo Engineering said it will carry out the entire process of engineering, procurement and construction for the lucrative project. The detailed schedule for the construction has yet to be determined, it added. The builder said it has won 18 overseas orders worth $5 billion including a $1.13 billion deal from the United Arab Emirates in February. Daewoo Engineering said it is aiming to win $3 billion in overseas orders in the second half, raising the portion of overseas business in its sales to 40 percent.
