New lawmakers oriented

VIENTIANE,AUG17.(KPL)- The National Assembly Office in cooperation with the UN joint programme Support to an Effective Lao National Assembly (SELNA) organized here yesterday a two-day orientation workshop for new members of the National Assembly (7th legislature).
The workshop is designed to ensure new lawmakers of the National Assembly recognize and understand their role as people representatives and responsibility, basic laws and regulations, the cooperation between the Lao National Assembly and parliaments in the region and international community and their roles and the lawmaking process.
“Besides to the lessons taught by local lecturers, the participants will also be equipped with knowledge and lesson taught by foreign lecturers,” Mr. Ounkeo Vouthilath, Chief of Cabinet, National Assembly, told the workshop.
“The NA’s role continues to be very crucial during the next five years in assuring that the 7th NSEDP is effectively implemented and Laos will reach its development goals. You, as members, have an important role in making sure that the implementation is made in a transparent manner,” said Minh H Pham, Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.
Mr. Pham attended the opening ceremony of the workshop together with Charge d’Affairies of European Union to Laos, Mr. Henery Pranked, Member of German Parliament, Mrs. Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, international diplomatic officials and relevant officials.
