ain venue for athletics championships features high-tech systems

(Daegu Athletics) MDAEGU, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- The main venue for the upcoming World Championships in Athletics will be equipped with the latest audio and video systems, organizers said Friday.
Officials said Daegu Stadium will feature a new main scoreboard on the south end and an auxiliary scoreboard on the north end, plus another temporary electronic board above the seats on the east side. The organizing committee said it spent 4.4 billion won (US$4.1 million) to install these high-definition screens.
During the Aug. 27-Sept. 4 championships by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), fans will be able to read even small letters on the big scoreboards, and their split-screen features will provide the audience with updates and highlights from several different events.
These screens will also run profiles of star athletes and broadcast interviews with champions.
Along the first floor seats where fans may not be able to view the screens, 80 liquid crystal display (LCD) television sets will be installed every 15 meters.
The committee also said 252 speakers and 206 amplifiers have been set up around the stadium, and a dozen public address announcers will be on hand.
