Ex-British PM Brown praises Lee for inspiring report on global education campaign

SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown sent South Korean President Lee Myung-bak a report on his "education for all" campaign, saying the report was inspired by Lee's vision at last year's G20 summit in Seoul, the presidential office said Friday.
Brown has led a global campaign to provide education opportunities for all children around the world. A high-level panel on the cause, co-chaired by Brown, has come up with a report calling on the international community to bolster support for education for the underprivileged.
The ex-British leader sent the report to Lee with a memo saying that it was "inspired by your vision at the G20," and that he looks forward to discussions on the issue at this year's G20 summit in France, according to the presidential office.
Brown appears to be referring to Lee's initiative in getting the "Seoul Development Consensus for Shared Growth" to be adopted at the Seoul summit. Brown did not attend the forum, because he was replaced by David Cameron as the British prime minister before the November summit.
Under the "Seoul Consensus," the participating economies made commitments to help developing countries achieve their maximum growth potential in various areas, including human resources development.
Seoul officials said that Brown's education report will be submitted to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, chair of this year's G20 summit, and to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
