Iranian Female Taekwondo Team Win Silver Medal in World Universiade

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian female taekwondo poomsae players grabbed the silver medal in the 26th World Universiade in Shenzhen, China.
The Iranian men and women taekwondo poomsae players performed well on Friday in Shenzhen.

In the women's section, South Korea claimed the gold medal, the Iranians took the silver, and China and Vietnam shared the bronze.

"I'm very happy that we won the silver medal. We finished higher than great teams like China and Vietnam. We deserved that," Mahsa Mardani, who won two silver medals for Iran, said.

The Iranian male taekwondo players won the bronze medal, after South Korea, which got the gold, and China, which took home the silver.

Taekwondo poomsae is a combination of basic actions and movements exercised with imaginary opponents.

The Iranian delegation has 85 athletes competing in 10 sports in this year's Universiade.

More than 13,000 athletes from about 150 countries are competing in 24 sports in the event.

The Iranian delegation won five gold medals, two silvers, and one bronze in the previous edition of the Universiade, which was held in Belgrade in 2009 with 145 countries participating, and stood in 11th place on the medals table.
