Commander Underlines IRGC's Capability to Confront Insecurity in Borders
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps stressed the power and capability of IRGC in confronting the enemies and terrorist groups which seek to foment insecurity in the bordering areas of Iran.
Colonel Hamid Ahmadi made the remarks in a press conference on Saturday evening in the presence of visiting 30 media men of Iraq Kurdistan Region, and underlined that IRGC will fight and uproot all terrorist groups and bandits in the region.
He added that there are strong ties between Kurd brothers, Iraqi political parties with IRGC.
He continued that Iran was the first country which recognized government of Iraq Kurdistan Region and it has very friendly relations with the government.
In the press conference, senior commanders of IRGC expounded on Iran's stances and position against PJAK terrorist group.
Members of the PJAK terrorist group - an offshoot of the PKK - regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country's western borders with Iraq's Kurdistan region.
PJAK launches its attacks from Iraq's Qandil Mountains in the areas under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government.
The PJAK and PKK had previously laid mines in Sardasht heights near Iran's border with Iraq.
IRGC deployed 5,000 military forces in the northwest of the country along its common border with Iraqi Kurdistan, and has been fighting the PJAK terrorist group over the past weeks in order to establish security and stability in the area.
Through the efforts of Iranian forces, security has been restored to some extent in the region.
