Speaker Felicitates Libyan Nation on Collapse of Qaddafi's Regime

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani felicitated the Libyan people on their victory over the tyrannical rule of Muammar Qaddafi, and cautioned about foreign interference in the North African state's affairs.
"The heroic Libyan nation rose up against the oppressor leaders of their own volition and proved that in the era of the awakening of nations, there is no room for tyranny and that the demands of the people must be respected," Larijani said in a statement on Tuesday.

Larijani warned the Libyan people against foreign interference in the North African country, and stressed, "International looters, headed by the US, have no objective other than to plunder the vast resources of this country and do not have the slightest regard for the rights of the nations."

The Iranian parliament speaker added that ignorance of the meddling of foreign countries would lead to "irreparable and dangerous damages."

Larijani also expressed hope for the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Libya in the future.

On Monday, euphoric Libyan revolutionaries seized control of most of Tripoli in a lightning advance, celebrating the victory in Green Square, the symbolic heart of Muammar Qaddafi's regime.

Qaddafi's defenders quickly melted away as his 42-year rule crumbled, but the dictator's whereabouts were unknown.

Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between regime troops and opposition forces since a revolution seeking to topple Gaddafi began in mid-February.
