Kim Jong-Il heads east
ULAN UDE, August 24 (Itar-Tass) - The armored train of North Korean
leader Kim Jong-Il left Buryatia's capital at around 14:20, Moscow time,
and has headed east along the Trans-Siberian railway, a source,
well-informed about the North Korean leader's visit, told Itar-Tass.
It was not immediately known if Kim Jong-Il might make stopovers along
the route. The program of his visit has not been disclosed.
Earlier reports said the meeting with Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev was the last main item on his agenda.
Medvedev said he was pleased with the results of the talks with Kim
Jong-Il on Wednesday, as the two leaders mapped up a plan of future
cooperation.
"I feel positively about our meeting," Medvedev told reporters after
the talks on the premises of the 11 airborne assault brigade near Ulan-Ude.
"We have covered all the issues, which have a considerable
significance given the tensions that persist on the Korean peninsula. The
talks were sincere and substantive, and multi-faceted. We discussed
bilateral issues, regional security problems, North Korea's nuclear
program, the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula; we touched upon all
issues."
"Our guest expressed special gratitude for the opportunity to visit
the Russian Federation and see the Bureiskaya hydroelectric power plant,"
Medvedev said.
His spokeswoman Natalia Timakova told reporters Kim Jong-Il had
thanked Medvedev for the humanitarian assistance Russia is providing to
North Korea.
The leaders of the two countries attended a drill on the premises of
the military unit. Paratroopers showed their skills to the high-ranking
guests as they landed to a test range from a helicopter and had an unarmed
combat training session.
