Seoul shares up 1.73 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.73 percent higher late Thursday morning, buoyed by institutional buying and gains in blue-chip exporters, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 30.39 points to 1,785.17 as of 11:20 a.m.
Leading carmaker Hyundai Motor and top shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries both jumped almost 5 percent.
Samsung Electronics gained nearly 3 percent following reports of Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs's resignation.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,085.5 won to the greenback, down 3.3 won from Wednesday's close.
