PYONGYANG, August 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The North Korean government has
decided to implement a trilateral project for the construction of a gas
pipeline, North Korean Prime Minister Choe Yong Rim said during Friday's
talks with Russian Minister of Regional Development Viktor Basargin, who
took part in a regular meeting of the Russian-North Korean
Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical
Cooperation.
Earlier, the accord on the setting up of a joint commission on the
transit of natural gas to South Korea via North Korea was reached during a
meeting between the Russian and North Korean presidents, Dmitry Medvedev
and Kim Jong Il, in Ulan-Ude.
"Our talks yielded results," Medvedev told reporters after his
back-then meeting with the North Korean leader.
"We instructed our agencies to establish a special commission, which
should determine specific parameters of bilateral cooperation for gas
transit via North Korea, as well as accession of South Korea to the
project, with due account that major gas consumers are located on the
territory of the latter country," the Russian president said.
