Official: 7,300 Somali Families Receive Iran's Red Crescent Society's Aids

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary-General of Iran's Red Crescent Society Zaher Rostami announced that until now 7,300 Somali families have received services and humanitarian aids provided by the IRCS.
Rostami also said that the body will set up standard camps for the Muslim Somalis once the obstacles are removed.

Referring to the positive outcome of the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi to Mogadishu and his talks with the Somali, he reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran intends to set up independent camps there.

Saying that the Somali government had some reservations towards the issue in the past, he said after Salehi's visit to the country, the IRCS has been granted a space to set up its camp.

Iran has repeatedly announced its support for the people of Somalia, stressing that it would spare no effort to help the Somalis survive the tragic situation.

The drought and famine have affected more than 11.8 million people across Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Somalia has been the hardest-hit country in what is being described as the worst drought in the Horn of Africa in 60 years.

According to the United Nations, it is estimated that a quarter of Somalia's population of 9.9 million are now either internally displaced or living outside the country as refugees.

The UN has declared famine in five areas in Southern Somalia, warning that, without urgent intervention, the food crisis could engulf the entire southern areas.
