Belarussian authorities drop criminal case against former presidential candidate
MINSK, August 27 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus has stopped the prosecution of
former presidential candidate Grigory Kostusev. He had been accused of
rioting in Minsk on December 19, 2010 after the presidential election.
Travel restrictions have been lifted from him.
As Kostusev said earlier in the day, he had received a notice
declaring "the termination of criminal proceedings due to the absence of a
corpus delicti."
According to the oppositional United Civil Party, the criminal case
against the head of the Young Democrats Oleg Korban, had been dropped,
too. He received a letter from the preliminary investigation department of
the Minsk police force. In addition, on Friday the news arrived of the
termination of a criminal case against Alexander Orestovich - a member of
the election campaign team of a former presidential candidate, Nikolai
Statkevich.
A little earlier criminal proceedings were terminated against the
chairman of the United Civil Party, Anatoly Lebedko and Belarusian
opposition journalist Natalia Radina on charges of involvement in riots.
