N Korea unconditionally ready for six-party talks resumption - Kim
PYONGYANG, August 27 (Itar-Tass) -- The DPRK is unconditionally ready
for resumption of the six-party talks and seeks a nuclear-free regime on
the Korean Peninsula, the country's leader Kim Jong-il stated on Saturday,
while on the official visit in China, in the city of Dajing, Heilongjiang.
The country will completely fulfill its obligations to the partners in
accordance with the Joint Statement of September 19, 2005, with the aim to
establish peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the head of state
said.
In September 2005, the parties concluded the fourth round of the
six-party consultations in Beijing with singing a joint declaration, in
which Pyongyang pledged to abandon its nuclear programme in exchange for
economic and energy aid, including possible construction of several
light-water reactors in the country with U.S. assistance.
The six party talks with the participation of Russia, China, the
United States, Japan and both Koreas on the nuclear problem on the Korean
Peninsula have been held in Beijing with long suspensions since August 27,
2003. The sixth round was halted by Pyongyang on September 30, 2007.
