Reactor at Kalinin NPP switched off for scheduled repair
UDOMLYA,, Tver Reg, August 27 (Itar-Tass) -- Power Unit No. One at the
Kalinin nuclear power plant is under scheduled repair beginning Saturday.
The reactor has been switched off.
Among the maintenance operations are reactor dismantling, fuel
reloading, reactor assembly, metal control and major repairs of the main
circulating pumps, a plant source told Itar-Tass.
The extra and modernization work includes replacing of separators of
steam generators and introducing recording instruments in the protective
circuit for the water level in the steam generators.
The first of three power units at the plant was started for
planned-capacity operation in June 1985. There are 1,000-MWatt reactors.
Radiation in the area of the plant is within the normal level.
The plant of the Rosenergoatom company is located in the north of the
Tver Region, 330 and 400 km from Moscow and St. Petersburg, respectively.
The plant supplies electricity to eight Russian regions. The fourth power
unit is under construction. Its start-up is planned for 2011. Together
with the third, the most modern out of the 31 units of Russia's ten NPPs,
the fourth will be a part of the second stage of the plant.
