Revolution Figure Stresses Islamic Nature of Libya's Revolution

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Libyan revolution official reiterated that the February-17 revolution of the Libyan people which ended the 42-year rule and dictatorship of Muammar Qaddafi and his family over the country is Islamic in nature.
"It is true that NATO forces have helped us to reach victory, but that does not mean that our revolution is non-Islamic nature. The Libyan people are Muslims and their revolution is an Islamic revolution," Head of Tripoli's Military Council Abdulkarim Bil-Haj told FNA on Monday.

He dismissed concerns about the western countries' encroachment on his country's wealth and oil resources, and said, "From now on Libya is free and will regain its former position among the Islamic countries in the near future."

Last week, euphoric Libyan revolutionaries seized control of Tripoli in a lightning advance, celebrating the victory in Green Square, the symbolic heart of Muammar Qaddafi's regime.

Qaddafi's defenders quickly melted away as his 42-year rule crumbled, but the dictator's whereabouts is still unknown.

Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between regime troops and opposition forces since the revolution began in mid-February.
