Hyundai E&C wins US$1.46 bln order from Vietnam

SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., South Korea's leading builder, said Tuesday that it has won a US$1.46 billion order to build a power plant in Vietnam
Under the deal with the Vietnamese government, Hyundai Engineering will complete the coal-powered plant in Mong Duong, 250 kilometers northeast of Hanoi, by August 2015, the company said.
The power plant, expected to have a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, will help resolve a chronic power shortage in the Southeast Asian country, the builder said.
The project will be mostly funded by the Asia Development Bank, it added. Hyundai E&C has won overseas deals valued at $3.8 billion so far this year.
Shares of Hyundai Engineering & Construction were trading at 71,800 won on the Seoul bourse as of 9:50 a.m., up 3.91 percent.
