Iran Felicitates Libyan Nation on Victory over Qaddafi's Regime

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi felicitated the Libyan people on their victory over the tyrannical rule of Muammar Qaddafi, and voiced Tehran's preparedness to expand ties with Tripoli.
The issue was raised by Salehi in a telephone conversation with Head of the National Transitional Council (NTC) Mustafa Abdel Jalil.
According to a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two sides also discussed the latest developments in Libya and called for closer ties in all areas.
Abdul Jalil, for his part, thanked the Iranian nation and government for the humanitarian assistance they have sent to Libya.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has dispatched three shipments of humanitarian assistance to Libya.
On August 22, euphoric Libyan revolutionaries seized control of most of Tripoli in a lightning advance, celebrating the victory in Green Square, the symbolic heart of Muammar Qaddafi's regime.
Qaddafi's defenders quickly melted away as his 42-year rule crumbled, but the dictator's whereabouts were unknown.
Libyan revolutionary forces overran Qaddafi's Bab al-Aziziyah compound on August 23.
Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between regime troops and opposition forces since a revolution seeking to topple Qaddafi began in mid-February.
