RF and DPRK discuss possibilities of holding joint exercises

MOSCOW, August 30 (Itar-Tass) - - During a working trip to the DPRK, a
delegation of the Eastern Military District (EMD) discussed possibilities
of holding joint exercises to search for and rescue ships in disaster on
the open sea, as well as exercises of humanitarian direction.
As press secretary of EMD troops Lieutenant Colonel Igor Muginov said,
"the EMD delegation headed by commander of the district's troops Admiral
Konstantin Sidenko has concluded its trip to the DPRK."
"During meetings with Korean colleagues, consultations on issues of
resuming and further developing military and naval cooperation of the two
countries, possibilities of holding joint exercises to search for and
rescue ships in disaster on the open sea, as well as exercises of the
humanitarian directions were held," Muginov specified. The sides "also
discussed issues of exchanging friendly visits of ships of the Russian
Navy and the Navy of the Korean People's Army (KPA)."
"During the visit, a meeting of the EMD delegation with Chief of the
KPA General Staff Vice-Marshal Ri Yong-Ho was held," Muginov said. "All
the planned issues were discussed."
During the trip, which began on August 22, the EMD delegation visited
a KPA infantry brigade.
The EMD visit to the DPRK coincided with the trip of DPRK Leader Kim
Jong-il to Russia.
