Seoul shares open higher on U.S. gains
SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened slightly higher on Wednesday as investor sentiment was lifted by expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will act to stimulate the economy, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 2.91 points, or 0.16 percent, to trade at 1,846.73 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Wall Street closed higher on Tuesday after the release of the Fed's Aug. 9 minutes showed the central bank had considered bold steps to help the weak economy. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.18 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.55 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,072.65 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., down 0.95 won from Tuesday's close.
