U.S. lawmakers to visit S. Korea next week
SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Yonhap) -- Three U.S. Congress members will visit South Korea next week and meet with Seoul's foreign minister over the allies' free trade pact and other bilateral issues, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.
Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Virginia), Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-Mississippi) and Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (D-Guam), all members of the House Armed Services Committee, will arrive Sunday on a two-day visit as part of their tour of East Asia, the ministry said in a press release.
Their meeting with Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, scheduled for Monday, is expected to focus on their countries' alliance issues, the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, and urging parliamentary ratification of the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.
The representatives are also scheduled to tour the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas and pay visits to the U.S. embassy in Seoul and U.S. troops stationed in the country, the ministry said.
