Kyrgyzstan has many preconditions for development - Otunbayeva

BISHKEK, August 31 (Itar-Tass) -- Kyrgyzstan has enough plans for
moving forward, the republic's President Roza Otunbayeva said on Wednesday
during the holiday demonstration and a military parade in Kyrgyzstan's
capital city, which are organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the
country's independence.
"Over the recent history of independence, the republic's people have
experienced hardships and ordeal," she said. "We should pay respect to our
people, who, despite the complications of the transition period, have
survived, and who create a new life."
Kyrgyzstan has all preconditions for development, including such as a
"wonderful land" and "multinational people," she said.
"Over twenty years of our country's independence we have proved to
ourselves that without realistic division of power, without checks and
balances between them, a territory has a temptation to usurp the power,"
the president said. "This is why for the first time in Central Asia we
have been moving towards a parliamentary system of power."
In Kyrgyzstan "for the first time in the post-Soviet space, the
presidential election will not involve the acting head of the state," she
continued, because according to the local legislation, Otunbayeva does not
have a right to run for presidency once again. She expressed confidence
that it would be another challenge for the republic.
"I, as a president, will take every effort to provide for democratic
and honest will of our citizens," she assured.
Roza Otunbayeva called for the nation to take care of its "land, to
respect each other, not to divide the nation by the language, religion,
colour of the skin or shape of eyes."
"We all should work to make our country a highly developed booming
state," she concluded.
The Independence Day celebration events are organised on Wednesday
throughout Kyrgyzstan.
