Iranian parliamentary speaker to visit N. Korea

SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Iran's parliament said Thursday its speaker plans to visit North Korea next week to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation amid reports that the two nations have a close partnership on long-range missile development.
The speaker, Ali Larijani, is scheduled to embark on a trip to Pyongyang on Sunday for a three-day stay, followed by a visit to China, according to the parliament's Web site.
It added the trip is aimed at discussing "expansion of cooperation."
The U.S. accuses both Pyongyang and Teheran of developing highly enriched uranium programs and suspects that the North has helped the Middle Eastern nation develop long-range missiles.
North Korea's media have not released any news of the speaker's trip.
Meanwhile, the North's leader, Kim Jong-il, recently sent an a message to Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, in response to his congratulations on the 66th anniversary of Korea's liberation, Pyongyang's official news agency, KCNA, reported.
Kim was quoted as saying, "I, availing myself of this opportunity, sincerely wish you and the Palestinian people successes in their struggle to build an independent state."
