SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Aug. 25-31, 2011.

August
25 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Ye Jianming, president of the Hong Kong Zhonghwa Energy Fund Commission of China, handed his gift for North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to an official while on a visit to North Korea.
25 North Korean honorary doctorate of pedagogy is conferred on James Chin-Kyung Kim, co-president of operation of Pyongyang University of Science and Technology.
25 The North Korean title of Labor Hero is conferred on Choe Ryong-ho, vice president of Yanbian University of Science and Technology of China.
25 The China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) donates aid materials to the (North) Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled (KFPD).
25 A delegation of logistical personnel of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) headed by Col. General Jon Chang-bok leaves Pyongyang to visit China.

27 Kim Jong-il sends a message of thanks to Chinese President Hu Jintao on his way home after visiting northeastern China.

30 The KCNA says Premier Choe Yong-rim inspects the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the February 8 Vinalon Complex, the Ryongsong Machine Complex and the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex.
30 A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by its Vice Minister Kung Sok-ung flies to Europe.
30 The KCNA says tourism on the Rason economic and trade zone in northeastern North Korea and Mt. Kumgang via a sea route has begun in North Korea.
30 A national scientific and technological symposium in the field of protecting the natural environment is held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to mark the 15th anniversary of Kim Jong-il's work "On Bringing about a New Turn in Land Administration."
30 Kim Jong-il visits Ryongrim County, the southeastern part of Jagang Province bordering China, to look around new industrial facilities including the Ryongrim Dam of Huichon Power Station No.1 built by soldiers and people in the county, along with his son Kim Jong-un.
30 Kim Jong-il sends a message to Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, in reply to his congratulations on the 66th anniversary of Korea's independence from Japanese colonial rule.
31 The KCNA says new stamps commemorating the 21st World Cup to be held in Russia in 2018 have been recently released in North Korea.
31 The North Korean Foreign Ministry gives a reception at the Taedong River Diplomatic Corps Club in Pyongyang on the 50th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was set up in 1955.
31 The KCNA says North Korea and Russia are now discussing a gas pipe project linking the two countries.
