Renault Samsung sales surge 44.7 pct in August
SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Co., the South Korean unit of French automaker Renault SA, said Thursday that its sales in August surged 44.7 percent from a year earlier due to strong demand for new models.
Renault Samsung said it sold 27,328 vehicles last month, compared with 18,889 units sold in the same period last year. Exports rose 86.0 percent to 8,736 units over the cited period, with local sales gaining 9.1 percent from a year earlier to 11,075 units.
Overall sales in August also represented a 47.7 percent increase from the previous month's tally of 18,507.
For the first eight months of this year, the carmaker sold 169,351 vehicles, a decrease of 3.4 percent from a year earlier. Exports surged 41.8 percent to 95,673 units in the January-August period, but this was offset by domestic sales that plunged 31.7 percent to 73,678 units.
