Ssangyong Motor's sales jump 54.6 pct in Aug.
SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Ssangyong Motor Co., South Korea's smallest automaker, said Thursday its sales surged 54.6 percent on-year to reach a monthly high in August, helped by strong exports and domestic demand.
The company sold a record 10,100 vehicles last month, compared with 6,534 units a year earlier. Domestic sales rose 37.0 percent on-year to 3,433 units with exports shooting up 65.5 percent to 6,667 units, including complete knock-down units that can be assembled into a car at an overseas car assembly line.
The carmaker, an affiliate of Indian sport utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., also said sales topped the 10,000-unit mark for the sixth straight month in August.
In the first eight months of the year, sales soared 52.2 percent on-year to 76,736 vehicles. Exports spiked 64.0 percent to 49,551 units, and domestic sales rose 34.6 percent to 27,185.
