Seoul shares down 0.7 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.7 percent lower late Friday morning as investor sentiment was dampened by growing uncertainty about the global recovery, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 13.14 points to 1,867.56 as of 11:20 a.m.
The key stock index underwent volatile trading, falling as much as 1.06 percent at one point during the morning session.
U.S. markets closed lower on Thursday as mixed signals from economic data raised uncertainty. The Dow Jones industrial average declined 1 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite Index fell 1.3 percent.
Market leader Samsung Electronics shed 0.26 percent to 769,000 won and top banking group KB Financial Group fell 1.84 percent to 42,600 won.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,062.65 won to the greenback, down 1.35 won from Thursday's close.
