S. Korea agrees to send water resources experts to Libya
Paris, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will send water resources engineers to Libya as early as this month to help build the war-devastated African country, the South's foreign minister said Friday.
Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan said he reached the deal with interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril of the rebel-led National Transitional Council on the sidelines of an international conference in Paris on how to rebuild the African country.
Kim said Jibril asked South Korea to dispatch water resources development experts as soon as possible as Libya suffers from water shortages.
South Korean engineers built large networks of pipelines in Libya to transport underground desert water to urban areas during Moammar Gadhafi's rule.
Kim said he also promised in the meeting with Jibril that South Korea will help Libya restore infrastructure such as Internet and communication networks.
