Koreans to honor Sept. 11 victims with classical music

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- A group of Korean musicians in the United States plans to present a "peace concert" this month in commemoration of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and their families, as the tragic incident marks its 10th anniversary.
The Washington Korean Symphony Orchestra, a charity organization, said it will open the concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
All profits from the event will be donated for the bereaved families, according to Lee Kyung-shin, director of the orchestra, which was launched in 2002.
On the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the group held a "candlelight concert" in front of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington to pay tribute to the victims. More than 2,000 Americans attended.
"At that time, I promised with the other members to play music for them again on the 10th anniversary," Lee said.
South Korean Ambassador Han Duck-soo is scheduled to attend the concert, embassy officials said.
