CIS summit to result in package of documents on cooperation -- Kremlin
MOSCOW, September 3 (Itar-Tass) -- A package of documents on CIS
cooperation and an agreement on the perpetuation of the memory of peoples
of the Commonwealth countries which participated in the Great Patriotic
War will be signed on Saturday at the CIS head of state meeting in
Dushanbe with the participation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev,
"In the context of the tragic date -- the 70th anniversary since the
beginning of the Great Patriotic War -- marked this year, an agreement is
planned to be signed at the summit on perpetuating the memory of courage
and heroism of the CIS member states' peoples in the bloody war," a
Kremlin administration official told Itar-Tass.
It is an important document for all the Commonwealth countries to
continue the work within the organisation to maintain the memory of the
peoples' feat, he noted.
The presidents will also approve documents regulating inter-state
cooperation within the CIS in various areas, including improvement of the
air defence system and migration policies, the source said.
The leaders will also consider further CIS development, including the
information about the implementation of the main action plan to realize
the corresponding conception and will exchange views on current
international problems. They are expected to agree on some staff and
organizational issues, including the CIS presidency in 2012 and the next
head of state meeting.
The Commonwealth of Independent States will mark its 20th anniversary
in December this year. Over the relatively short historical period, the
CIS went a complicated way of formation and search for optimal forms of
cooperation and inter-state relations,
A draft analytical report about the results of the CIS's activities
over the 20 years and objectives for the future will be presented for the
consideration of the next head of state meeting. The presidents are
expected to make a joint statement in connection with the jubilee and also
award CIS diplomas to citizens of CIS countries for contribution to the
organisation development.
