CIS potentialities not lost yet, new impetus can be given -- Rakhmon
DUSHANBE, September 3 (Itar-Tass) -- The commonwealth has not lost its
potentialities yet, and with priorities set right, a new impetus can be
given for its adaptation to new conditions, Tajik President Emomali
Rakhmon told reporters on the eve of the 20th jubilee CIS head of state
summit that opens in the republic's capital on Saturday.
It is time to determine key objectives to concentrate further efforts
to attain them, not scattering the available resources to settle local
matters, the Tajik leader noted.
A draft analytical report on the results of the CIS activities over
the 20 years and objectives for the future, approved by CIS foreign
ministers on Friday, will be presented at the summit.
On the agenda are also 11 issues related to the further CIS activities
and integration processes in the CIS.
The leaders will consider issues of the perpetuation of the memory of
CIS countries' peoples which participated in the 1941-45 Great Patriotic
War, a three-year programme for cooperation to combat illegal migration,
which, according to the Tajik Foreign Ministry, is aimed at enhancing the
productivity of search and special operations to block illegal migration
channels, and also an agreement on coordination of security services in
case of aircraft hijacking.
The CIS unites eleven states of the former USSR, except the Baltic
countries and Georgia, which quitted the Commonwealth in 2009.
