Brazilian Foreign Minister to arrive in Moscow for talks on cooperation

RIO DE JANEIRO, September 3 (Itar-Tass) -- Brazilian Minister of
Foreign Affairs Antonio de Aguiar Patriota leaves for an official visit to
Moscow on Saturday. He will have talks with Russian Foreign Minister
Sergei Lavrov on Sunday, September 4, to discuss international problems,
cooperation issues in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South
Africa) and the United Nations and ways to consolidate economic and
political cooperation between the two countries.
The ministers will consider joint projects in the areas of peaceful
space exploration, energy, oil and gas, technologies and agriculture.
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry noted in connection with the planned
consultations that the two countries had regular contacts on the high
level. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his Brazilian counterpart
Dilma Rousseff met during the BRICS summit in China last April, and
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had talks in Moscow with Brazilian
Vice-President Michel Temer last May.
There is a great potential for bilateral cooperation in the spheres of
energy, space and education, the Brazilian minister believes. The Foreign
Ministry underscored that South American countries were interested to step
up academic exchanges with Russia.
Brazil is Russia's major trade partner in South America. The bilateral
trade turnover amounts to about six bln dlrs. Brazil traditionally exports
to Russia raw sugar, tobacco, coffee, beef, pork and poultry meat. Basic
products of Russia's export are mineral fertilizers and diesel fuel.
