Earthquake occurs in Tokyo, neighboring prefectures
TOKYO, September 4 (Itar-Tass) - An earthquake measuring 4.7 points on
the open-ended Richter scale was registered in Tokyo and a number of
prefectures around it Sunday.
At the time of reporting, there was no data on victims, destructions,
or irregularities in the operations of public transport.
Japan's Meteorological Agency did not issue any warnings about the
possibility of a tsunami threat.
The epicenter of the quake was located in the southern part of Saitama
prefecture that adjoinsTokyo. The seimic focus lay at the depth of about
100 kilometers below the surface.
Strong enough tremors could be felt in all the areas of Tokyo,
including the one where the Itar-Tass bureau is located.
The quake was also felt in the prefectures Tochigi, Ibaraki, Saitama,
Chiba, Kanagawa, Sizuoka, Nagano, and Fukushima.
A total of two more quakes measuring 3.6 points and 4.2 points
respectively have occurred since early morning Sunday in Fukushima where
the ill-fated Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is found.
