S. Korea to reopen embassy in Tripoli this week

SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is planning to reopen its embassy in Tripoli this week, as the security situation in the war-battered capital of Libya appears to be improving, officials here said Sunday.
Two South Korean diplomats who were sent to the Korean embassy in Tripoli last week on a fact-finding mission will continue to stay there in preparation for the formal reopening of the diplomatic mission, said the officials.

South Korea temporarily closed its embassy in Tripoli in late May, and most staff have been moved to a Tunisian island amid escalating dangers from NATO air strikes against forces loyal to the disgraced Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Nations around the world, including South Korea, have stepped up efforts to help Libya's interim council rebuild the strife-torn nation and maintain public order as Gadhafi's 42-year-old rule appears to be coming to an end.
"The government has received reports indicating that the circumstances in Tripoli are growing gradually stable. Thus, most Korean diplomats now staying in Tunisia, including Ambassador Jo Dae-sik, are considering returning to Tripoli this week at the earliest," said an official in Seoul.
