LEAD: Marudai product feared tainted supplied to over 3,000 facilities

OSAKA, Sept. 21 Kyodo - (EDS: RECASTING WITH NEW INFO)
Meal provider Nisshin Healthcare Food Service Co. said Sunday that it has supplied one of the five Marudai Food Co. products suspected of containing the toxin melamine to 3,054 facilities in all of Japan's 47 prefectures, including medical institutions.

While most supplies of the product have already been consumed, the company has
asked facilities not to use remaining supplies while it works to collect them,
the company said.
No incidents of damage to consumers' health have been reported so far, it added.
Marudai said earlier in the day that it has shipped a total of around 5,060
bags of the five products made from tainted milk supplied by a major Chinese
dairy company to at least 240 retailers across Japan since Sept. 1. The
products in question include pastries and steamed meat buns.
The announcement came a day after Marudai said it had begun recalling the five
products made from tainted milk supplied by a major Chinese dairy company.
Marudai said it will swiftly remove the products from major supermarket stores
and other retailers.
The major manufacturer of ham and sausages also said it will suspend operations
at a factory in China that processed and manufactured three of the five
products while checks are conducted.
The September tally brought the number of bags of the five products shipped by
Marudai since April to more than 7,800.
Marudai said Saturday that it shipped a total of around 2,800 bags of the
products from April to August.
Marudai, based in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, is listed on the First Section
of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
