Rowan Atkinson walks red carpet in Sydney
English actor Rosamund Pike says spy movies keep bringing her to Australia.
The former Bond girl was in Sydney on Sunday with British comedy legend Rowan Atkinson for the world premiere of their latest film, Johnny English Reborn.
"I came here about eight or nine years ago to premiere Die Another Day, the Bond film that I did," Pike told AAP on the red carpet.
"So funnily enough to come back again with a Bond-esque film is quite sweet."
In the sequel to the 2002 spy-comedy Johnny English, Atkinson reprises his role as the unlikely secret service agent, who is called in to stop a group of international assassins from taking down the Chinese premier.
Atkinson and Pike were joined in Sydney by co-star Gillian Anderson and the film's director, Oliver Parker.
Pike said the harbour city was chosen for the world premiere of such a British film because Atkinson has so many fans in Australia.
"(Also) I think it did very well, the first one out here, so I think we wanted to open somewhere where we'd be guaranteed a warm reception, which is certainly true of today," she said.
Pike was not just referring to the crowds of cheering fans but the sunshine and blue skies they were blessed with.
Atkinson arrived at the red carpet in style - a marching band played as he pulled up in the one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce featured in the movie.
"This is the actual car, this is the actual one that's in the movie," Atkinson said.
An avid wheels fan, Atkinson said the car's nine-litre, V16 engine is "tremendously powerful".
"Tremendously torque-y, as we say in the car world," he said.
"And any engine that big is always going to be fun and it plays a very pivotal role in the film ... At one point it comes to the rescue of Johnny English in a very important way."
Atkinson said he jumped on board for a sequel because he thought they could go one better than the original.
"And that I think is the best reason for doing a sequel," he said.
"If you feel you can do something different or something better and we haven't done something very different but I think we've done something slightly better.
"I think the plot is more believable, the characters are more enjoyable and the story works better so that sounds as good a reason as any."
