Lao robot contestors win “Panasonic Award”

VIENTIANE,SEPT.(KPL)- Lao students have won “Panasonic Award” in the 10th ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2011 held in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 28-30.
18 counties have attended the competition namely China, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam.
The Asia-Pacific Robot Contest has been held since 2002 for tertiary students in the Asia-Pacific region. It is aimed at fostering friendship among the students with similar interests, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technology in the region.
“This is the first time for us to compete at an international robot contest in Thailand. We did not hope for any prize except experience to develop our robot making back in our county and to teach what we have learned and experienced for our juniors,” said a Lao awardee.
“Eighteen countries have sent their represenatives to compete at the event and most of them are skilled in robot devising. In the first round, our students contested against Chinese students and Brunei ones and we could pass to the second round. Unfortunately, we could not make our way through this round. This award is meaningful to our students. Besides to top and second and third prizes, the sponsor Panasonic Japan prepared Panasonic Awards for this competition,“ said Senior Consultant to Soutsaka College of Manegement and Technology Mr. Soutsaka Bounmanit. “We planned to send our students to compete at an international event in China’s Hongkong next year. But we have to prepare ourselves extensively because the event is reportedly much tougher and we are also worried about our budget because we have to spend much in order to present at the competition,“ said Mr. Soutsaka.
