Deadlock situation in Kosovo can be settled only in political ways.
BELGRADE, September 5 (Itar-Tass) -- A deadlock situation has emerged
in Kosovo that can be settled only in political democratic ways, President
of the Russian Commerce and Industry Chamber Yevgeny Primakov said here on
Sunday evening at a presentation of the Serbian edition of his book "A
World Without Russia?" at the Russian House in the Serbian capital.
"A deadlock situation has emerged in Kosovo," Primakov said to a
numerous audience. "I was a member of the Contact Group and no document
contained any word that Kosovo can obtain independence. Naturally, Serbia
does not recognize the separation of its territory and I hope and I am
sure that Russia will not do it either," Primakov noted. "It is necessary
to look for the way out of this situation and Russia will become Serbia's
partner in this process. A volatile situation persists in the Balkans, in
which it is needed to fight for peace and stability in democratic
political ways. They are as efficient as other ways," Primakov concluded.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. The Russian-Serbian
Friendship Society sang the song "There is only one moment in time" for
Primakov, who sang the last couplet himself to loud applauses.
The Russian delegation also included a Russian academician and the
Physics Nobel Prize winner in 2000, Zhores Alferov. They will be presented
with the Karic Brothers Award in Belgrade on Monday. The award is
presented for outstanding merits in culture, scientific developments, the
contribution in the development of journalism, economy, humanitarian
activities, the strengthening of peace and cooperation between various
nations.
