Yonhap News named host news agency for nuclear security summit

SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's key news service, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on becoming the host news agency for next year's nuclear security summit in Seoul, officials said.
Under the MOU, Yonhap News will offer extensive coverage of the second Nuclear Security Summit, to be held on March 26-27 in the South Korean capital. The Seoul summit is expected to bring together more than 50 heads of state for discussions on enhancing global cooperation to prevent nuclear terrorism and ensuring the safety of atomic energy.

The agreement was signed by Park Jung-chan, president and CEO of Yonhap News, and Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, head of the Preparatory Secretariat for the Seoul summit.
Yonhap News will cover the Seoul summit and related events in Korean, English and five other foreign languages. The news agency will also provide a search system making it easier for readers to locate related news articles and photos.
The MOU also calls for offering multimedia content for domestic and foreign journalists at a media center during the two-day summit.
Yonhap is South Korea's largest news provider, producing content for newspapers, broadcasters, Internet portals, the government and private enterprises on a scale of about 3,000 news articles per day, the largest volume by far among local news organizations.
With a pool of some 600 reporters, Yonhap's coverage consists of a wide variety of multimedia news content, from articles and photos to video and graphics. Its network of 62 correspondents operates in 46 countries abroad, and its real-time news service is also provided in English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Spanish and French.
