Lawmaker Asks Turkey to Avoid Playing in US Court

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian lawmaker said on Monday that Ankara is harming the regional nations' quest for Islam through implementing western policies, and called on Turkey to avoid pursuing the US hegemonic goals.
"If Turkey wants to abide by religious and Islamic values, it should not play a role in the US colonialist policies," member of Iran-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group Farhad Bashiri told FNA.
"Today, Turkey is implementing NATO and West's policies in the region and is trying to take advantage of the existing conditions to achieve its broader goals that is the revival of the Ottoman Empire," Bashiri reiterated.
"Turkey is undermining Islam-seeking movements through implementing the West's policies," the lawmaker noted, and called on all Muslim nations to help the wave of Islamic awakening and anti-US movements in the region.
The remarks by the Iranian legislator came after Turkey formally approved the deployment of an early-warning missile defense radar by the NATO.
Officials said the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan relayed the final approval for a ballistic missile defense radar in Turkey.
They said the X-Band radar, identified as the US-origin AN/TPY-2, could arrive in Turkey as part of the NATO umbrella by 2012.
