Ahmadinejad: Iran, Tajikistan Concerned about Aliens' Meddling in Region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed the common positions of Tehran and Dushanbe on different regional and international issues, and said both nations are concerned about the interference of foreign countries in the region.
"The two countries are worried about the interference of the big powers and aliens in the internal affairs of the countries and issues of the region and North Africa," Ahmadinejad said on Monday after inaugurating the 110-mw Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant constructed by Iran in the Central Asian state of Tajikistan.
Stressing that Tehran and Dushanbe enjoy common stances and views on different regional and global issues, he said, "Both countries are seeking independence, freedom and justice for all nations."
"During the history, the two nations have always pioneered in promoting peace, justice and kindness and their cooperation serves the interest of the other regional countries as well," Ahmadinejad added.
Ahmadinejad has formally been invited by his Tajik counterpart to attend the ceremonies held in the country to mark Tajikistan's independence from the former Soviet Union, but inauguration of Sangtude-2 mega project was a main agenda of his visit to the Central Asian state.
The construction project of the dam on Vakhsh river as well as its 220-megawatt power plant called Sangtuda-2 started by an Iranian company in early 2006.
Management of the dam which will produce one billion kw/h electricity once fully implemented will go to Tajikistan after 12 years of implementation by Iran.
Tajik officials and people are happy to see that the project is accomplished even 6 months ahead of the declared timetable.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Health Minister Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi and Minister of Energy Majid Namjou accompany President Ahmadinejad in the trip.
Ahmadinejad is also due to finalize a contract on the construction of Eini power plant near Zarafshan river during his visit to the Central Asian state.
The Iranian President will also ink a contract over the construction of a cement plant in Tajikistan.
Iran and Tajikistan have recently accelerated expansion of their ties and cooperation and observers believe that the good achievements gained in area of their mutual cooperation should be deemed as a result of the efforts made by the two countries' officials
