FM Spokesman: US Striving to Hit Independent States in Region
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast blasted the US attempts to save its totalitarian allies in the region, and said Washington is trying to rescue dictatorial regimes and at the same time target independent states in the region.
Mehman-Parast, who was speaking in a meeting with top Greek journalists in Athens, reminded the US attempts to save its long-term ally in Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, and said despite all its efforts, Washington failed to achieve its desirable results.
"The Americans now think that they can no more stand against the people and have hatched another plot and decided to target those regional countries which are opposed to them," he added.
Mehman-Parast further pointed out that the West and the US are exerting pressure on the regional countries, specially Iran, because of their independent decision-makings and their opposition to the West's interference.
Earlier, Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi had said that the world is entering a new era after the recent political changes, and expressed confidence that these changes would serve the interests of independent and freedom-seeking nations.
Speaking at a meeting with North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister here in Tehran in February, Rahimi said, "The status of the world is changing rapidly and all the changes and developments which are taking place are against the hegemonic system."
"Under such circumstances there is no more room for the presence of the hegemonic powers. Definitely, the world's developments in future will serve the interests of the independent and freedom-seeking nations," Rahimi continued.
