Screaming girl flees Parramatta siege
SYDNEY (AAP)- Sept.6 -The daughter of a man holed up in a Sydney legal office has reportedly run screaming out of the building.
"My dad, my dad, my dad," the girl was heard screaming, Sky News reported.
The man walked into the building at about 9.15 (AEST) on Tuesday and demanded to see a person who was unknown to staff and got agitated when told that person did not work there.
Police said he then made threats about having a bomb in a backpack, and a witness described how he hurled a legal book at reception.
Police raided the western Sydney office and arrested the 52-year-old man from Orange, Macquarie Radio reported.
Assistant Commissioner Dennis Clifford said police had tried to resolve it peacefully.
"Towards the latter part of the time we've been here those negotiations have started to break down and then deteriorate to a stage where police have taken action to break into the premises and take a 52-year-old man into custody," commissioner Clifford told reporters on Tuesday night.
"He's currently assisting police with their ongoing inquires."
The girl was distressed but was united with family members, he said.
Family members are expected to hold a media conference on Tuesday night.
