Seoul shares open higher on institutional buying

SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Wednesday as institutional investors picked up large-cap shares, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 2.21 percent, or 39.09 points, to 1,805.8 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Institutional investors snapped up bargains after the key index's sharp falls in the previous sessions, lending support to tech exporters and chemical makers.
Chipmaking giant Hynix Semiconductor jumped about 5 percent and LG Chem climbed more than 3 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,071.85 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 3.05 won from Tuesday's close.
