Back injury to keep LPGA golfer Shin out for September

SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- LPGA Tour golfer Shin Ji-yai will sit out the rest of September with a back injury, her Seoul-based agency said Wednesday.
Sema Sports Marketing said Shin has been hospitalized in Seoul after dealing with severe back pains during a local tournament last weekend. Shin took painkillers to tie for sixth place at a Korean tour event in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, on Sunday.
Shin had been scheduled to fly back to the U.S. to compete on the LPGA Tour, but she will not enter any tournaments this month, Sema added.
Through the agency, Shin said she first felt pain during the CN Canadian Women's Open late last month, and the injury was aggravated when she flew to South Korea to play for two consecutive weeks.
"I want to have plenty of rest and get proper treatment," Shin said. "Then I will bear down for the rest of the season to perform better."
Shin, the 2009 LPGA Tour rookie of the year, is in the midst of a mediocre season. After winning twice and finishing second on the money list, she has put up five top-10 finishes in 14 events with no wins, and is ranked 13th on the money list so far.
