Seoul shares up 2.41 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 2.41 percent higher late Wednesday morning as institutional investors picked up tech blue chips and steel makers, outweighing foreign sell-offs, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 42.55 points to 1,809.26 as of 11:20 a.m.
Tech blue chips gathered ground as institutional investors hunted for bargains following their steep falls in the previous sessions. Samsung Electronics rose about 4 percent and its smaller rival LG Electronics spiked nearly 6 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,072.45 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 2.45 won from Tuesday's close.
