US documentaries to be shown at Yekaterinburg filmfest.
YEKATERINBURG, September 7 (Itar-Tass) - Works by both beginner and
recognized documentalists from the United States are to be shown at the
American documentary movie festival "Show us", which opens here on
Wednesday.
An official in the press service of the Ural branch of the Union of
Cinematographers of Russia has told Itar-Tass that prominent producer
Mitchell W. Block, an expert on American documentaries, will be the
festival's guest. One of his films, Poster Girl, will be shown at the
festival.
The press service official said, "This is the story of a real leader
who became a 'poster girl' for women service members of the US Army due to
a fine photo picture in the main army magazine. When back in America,
after returning home from Iraq, her tough outward image begins to fade
when the heroine is left alone with post-traumatic syndrome". The film was
nominated for Oscar Award in 2010.
Another two films are to be shown at the festival: "Freedom Fighters"
and "If a Tree Falls". The latter, dealing with the problems of
"ecological terrorism", won a prize for best montage among US
documentaries in 2011.
After the show of each film, cinema goers will be able to discuss it.
On the day when the Poster Girl will be shown, they will have an occasion
to meet Mitchell Block and ask him questions.
Mitchell Block is an expert on American documentary movies. He engaged
in the distribution and marketing of hundreds of documentaries, animated
cartoons, feature, short- and full-length movies. Twenty-five of them won
Oscar and 71 were nominated for this prestigious award of the American
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
