Eight fur seals brought to Primorye dolphinarium.
VLADIVOSTOK, September 7 (Itar-Tass) - Eight fur sesls have been
brought to the dolphinarium of TINRO center (Russian acronym for Pacific
fisheries research center) in Srednyaya (medium) Bay near Nakhodka. They
currently undergo adaptation to the new conditions under veterinarian's
supervision, an official in the Primorye veterinary service told Itar-Tass
on Wednesday.
The fur seals were brought from the Kuril island of Tyuleniy (island
of seals). Twenty fur seals had been caught there. However, on August 29,
during transportation by air from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Vladivosyok, 12 fur
seals died. The transport prosecutor's office is ptobing the incident.
According to preliminary avenue of inquiry, the death of the marine
mammals was caused by a breach of transportation rules.
The TINRO Center dolphinarium opened last year. Over there, scientists
study the biology of large marine mammals such as, in particular, white
whales that were caught in the Sea of Okhotsk at the beginning of this
year. Part of sea mammals after trainingin entertaining functions under
the direction of experienced tamers, are sent out to large oceanariums of
the Asia-Pacific Regio . Mammals from the Primorye dolphinarium are living
and entertaining people in China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
