M5.1 quake jolts Hokkaido

TOKYO, Sept. 7 Kyodo - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 jolted southern Hokkaido on Wednesday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. There were no immediate reports of injury or damage, according to local authorities.
The 10:29 p.m. quake measured upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in part of the town of Shinhidaka, it said. No tsunami warning was issued.
In Tokyo, the central government set up a liaison office in the disaster management center at the prime minister's office to gather information about the quake.
The southern Hokkaido area was also hit on Wednesday morning by a quake with a magnitude of 4.3 which measured 4 in Shinhidaka, according to the agency.
