Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street rallies
SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened higher Thursday as eased worries about Europe's public debts and overnight rallies by U.S. stock markets boosted investor sentiment, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 0.67 percent, or 12.3 points, to 1,845.76 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks finished higher on Wednesday after a German court's ruling backed the bailout of debt-ridden European countries. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 2.47 percent and the Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 3.04 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,069.85 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 1.95 won from Wednesday's close.
